The staff very helpful and friendly The decor and individual rooms

lack of parking - we had to park in the underground car park and were broken into

As we booked online we did not know which room was allocated to us and were were offered the opportunity to change our room and were able to upgrade. we even got to choose which room we preferred and the staff were very helpful and accommodating.

The themed rooms are excellent and make it akin to a boutique type hotel although some of the furnishings were a little tired, but was excellent value for money.

The location was great. The breakfast was traditional and tasty. The service in the breakfast room was very good. A lovely looking english styled hotel room by the sea. Kept thinking that American tourists would like it here cause of the characteristics of the hotel. Don't know if they'll be able to fit though.

We stayed in the Downes Room.I did not appreciate being told abruptly by a guy at reception that they had received a complaint about the noise coming from our room. Firstly, I had only arrived 2 hours earlier. Secondly, the time of the complaint was 10pm on a Friday night. Thirdly, the manner of which we were told was impolite and should've been handled differently. He made us feel like we had done something wrong, even though we had done nothing out of the ordinary. It's an old building and the floorboards creak, which I think is a lovely feature. However, they need to get that sorted if it hinders other peoples' stay. It was not a nice first night impression of the staff and consequently affected the rest of our stay there.

The location is brilliant for the beach, pubs and restuarants. The hotel staff are very polite and very keen to please. The seaview room that we stayed in was lovely and it made a very pleasant change to have your breakfast served to you at your table the breakfast staff was very alert and happy, could not do enough for you. Plenty of DVDs in reception if the weather is bad and you can't get out with the children.

The fish and chip shop next door stays open until 4 am so you have constant stream of people in and out making noise all night, try top floor as we were on the first floor the room was called Place Pier or don't go for seaview

Rooms were small and best rooms with sea-view could not be reserved on-line.

The location is good and the reception staff were good.

Our room was very small and very basic, and did not live up to what we were expecting given the reviews of the hotel we had read. On the morning we were leaving we had to wait for over ten minutes for the lift to arrive so that we could take our luggage down.

On arrival the staff at recetion were helpful. The rooms were clean and the breakfast offered a good selection and was freshly cooked to order. Ideal position for beach,- short walk to shop and restaurants. Underground parking nearby £12.50 for 24 hrs, which could work out expensive if staying longer than a weekend.

No hot water to shower in the morning. On complaining at reception we were told that staff were aware of the problem (which only affected our room) but did not want to wake us to tell us. Perhaps a note under the door would have been a good option! At check-out we were told if we had complained sooner we would have been offered another room - but if they knew there was a problem why did we have to complain!!! £10 refund offered.

We booked this hotel as I had read all the reviews about it on trip advisor and Booked.net which were excellent so was really looking forward to it . The breakfast was lovely plenty to choose from and lovely place to eat. We really enjoyed our stay in brighton. The staff were great and very helpful.

Thought we were given the worst room it was poorly decorated nothing matched. The bathroom wasn't clean it didn't have a proper shower. There was quite alot of noise from other people coming in and out of their rooms next to us, so didn't sleep very well at all. Wouldn't reccomend this hotel or stay there again.

The staff were brilliant. The desk staff were friendly and welcoming and the breakfast staff exceptional. We were given so much choice of beautifully presented food. We were allowed to relax and have extra coffee. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is very near the shops, museums restaurants etc but it was quiet and peaceful in our room despite the bank holiday.

welcoming staff, gorgeous full english breakfast, great bar adjoining the hotel with fresh fish served daily.love it there..becoming regulars!!

It was a very nice room I stayed in with a flat screen tv, small soaps and gels provided and lovely decor. It was very quiet, considering it was on the main road of Brighton. The highlight was asking for some crackers for my Brie, and the gentleman working that evening bought some up for us. That is quality service. Breakfast staff were very efficient and friendly as well.

It was a little pricey, and the hotels beside them were advertising rooms for a lot cheaper than we paid.

Great room clean and well furnished and what a bathroom fantastic. The staff were very friendly and helpfull, superb breakfast.

  • Group of friends

The breakfast was top class with a big variety of fresh well cooked food served by very friendly and polite staff. The detail and effort put into the theme and design of each room was very apparent and was refreshing to see in these times where most b and b's are basic and most hotels are monotonous in design.

The room was extremely hot and we had to wedge the only window we had open with the bin as the window was broken

  • Older travelers

Proximity to Brighton Conference Centre, friendliness of staff, and choice of breakfast.

  • Group of friends

Great location. Staff are excellent and can't do enough to help. Room very comfortable with a large walk in shower. Good breakfast in very nice surroundings. Plenty of cupboard space with lots of hangers.

Bathroom extremely cold (this was June), in fact I would go as far to say freezing. Definitely need towel rail on a separate system to central heating so guests can switch on and off as required. Other dislikes would only be picky things as in no safe deposit, no full length mirror and could do with a hook in the bathroom.
